FAQ

Questions? We're here to help.

What is Priama?

Priama is a free, local-first desktop writing app for authors. Each book is a project on your computer β€” manuscript, world-building wiki, and export tools in one place. It works fully offline and never requires an account.

Who is Priama for?

Priama is for novelists, short-story writers, and research-driven non-fiction authors who want a dedicated environment for long-form work β€” manuscript structure, organized reference material, and export in a single app.

How is Priama different from other writing software?

Most writing tools lock your work in the cloud, charge subscriptions, or split manuscript and research across separate apps. Priama keeps each book as a project folder on your machine, with a built-in wiki and export β€” fully offline and free, including features that other tools often put behind a paywall. Priama started as a project the developer built to avoid those costs; it is published openly because it is useful for writers everywhere.

Is Priama free?

Yes β€” Priama is free. There are no paid tiers and no features locked behind a subscription. Download, write, and export without paying.

Do I need an account or an internet connection?

No. Priama does not require an account, sign-in, or an active internet connection. Install the app and write offline whenever you want.

Where is my work stored?

On your computer. Each Priama project is an open, file-based folder on your drive β€” not on Priama’s servers. On save, Priama creates local zip backups inside the project and can mirror backups to external folders you choose (an external drive, NAS, or a cloud-synced folder such as Google Drive). You control where copies live; Priama never hosts or stores your writing.

Does Priama collect my information?

No. Priama does not collect telemetry, usage analytics, or any personal data. Your projects stay on your machine.

What is in a Priama project?

A Priama project folder includes your manuscript (chapters and scenes you can reorder with drag and drop), a wiki for characters, locations, research, and notes, and automatic local backups. Fiction and non-fiction projects use tailored wiki templates; you can add custom categories when needed.

What can I export?

You can export your full manuscript or selected chapters as DOCX, EPUB, or PDF β€” ready to share, submit, or publish.

Can I customize how exports look?

Yes. Book settings let you configure cover art, chapter numbering, scene breaks, title pages, dedication, copyright text, and typography. A device preview shows how your manuscript will read before you export.

Can I move projects between computers?

Yes. Because each project is a folder on your drive, you can copy it to another machine, external drive, or backup location and open it in Priama there.

What platforms does Priama support?

Priama is available for macOS today. Linux and Windows versions are coming soon.

When will Linux and Windows be available?
